Sirmburu House

New Build.

Designing this home in the picturesque countryside of Kenya was an exhilarating opportunity. The client’s brief was clear: they needed a simple yet refined home that respected both the environment and their living requirements. For a family of five, it was essential to create a space that was not only comfortable and functional but also aesthetically pleasing.

With an understanding of the local climate and surroundings, we chose a light, textural palette to minimize heat stress. The design incorporates deep overhangs to minimise the hard, harsh summer sun, additionally, optimizing the land to meet the family’s farming needs. The ground floor features a sunken living area that offers stunning views of the rear of the property, complemented by an open-plan kitchen and dining space that fosters a sense of connection and openness for the family.

The first floor is dedicated to private spaces, including the bedrooms and a retreat wing, ensuring a peaceful sanctuary for the family. Throughout the design, we incorporated biophilic elements to create tranquil, nature-inspired touch points, enhancing the overall sense of calm and harmony within the home as well as incorporating cross ventilation to the design, to capitalise on natural air flow.
