McPhersons House
New Build.
Designing the McPhersons' home in the expanding suburb of Waurn Ponds was an inspiring journey. Positioned on a large hilltop allotment, the site offers breathtaking valley views across Geelong and beyond, which became a focal point throughout the design process.
To make the most of these stunning views, we positioned the house layout to capture and celebrate the surrounding landscape. The house boasts two seperate living spaces; The first being the main residence, and the second building serves a dual purpose, functioning as both a work space and garage on the ground level, along with a self-sufficient retreat & living area above on the first floor, with bathroom & kitchen.
The client's passion for Mid Century Modern design was a driving force behind our collaboration. We emphasized the use of natural materials, with the rammed earth being a standout feature and a highlight in some spaces. The property showcases a dramatic shift in scale, highlighted with feature high ceilings that create a sense of openness and grandeur. Floor-to-ceiling north-facing windows harness the winter sun, seamlessly blending the indoor and outdoor environments and maintaining a constant visual connection to the stunning views; whilst incorporating cross ventilation to utilise the site’s natural air flow into the design.
The home is thoughtfully zoned into three distinct areas: a living and retreat space, a dedicated dining and kitchen wing, and on the first floor, all the bedrooms and private spaces. This zoning ensures that each area serves its purpose while contributing to the overall harmony and functionality of the home.
Under Construction 2024.
